ANTI-PIRACY : INTRODUCTION

Relona has developed a new approach for anti-piracy systems that dos not use hardware-activation or hardware locking.

Problems with Hardware Activation

Hardware-activation can protect the interests of content-owners and software vendors, but it is a burden for legitimate buyers of software and media.

For example, a person who purchases a video movie online cannot move it from one computer to another. If the computer crashes or suffers a hardware failure, the buyer loses access to the movie. Since the buyer has purchased a lifetime license to view the movie, it is unreasonable to limit the buyer's ability to enjoy the movie in this manner.

Instead of a relatively inexpensive movie that costs less than $15, consider a buyer who purchases a computer software license for $700. If the software uses activation based anti-piracy mechanisms, then the buyer will have to lock the software onto one computer. If that computer were to crash unexpectedly, the buyer might have to call the vendor's support team and explain to them why he/she is a legitimate customer who should be allowed to activate the software on a different computer. Even if the vendor's support-team is prompt and friendly, this is not a very pleasant experience for the buyer. Imagine the buyer doing this for every piece of software on the crashed computer! Not only is recovering from a hardware failure an unpleasant experience for the buyer, it is also expensive for the vendor who has to provide 24x7 re-activation support.

Relona's Solution

Relona's anti-piracy system is hardware independent. There is no activation process. Users may move their software and media from one computer or device to another without any restrictions. During legitimate use of the software or media, users will never need to interact with Relona's anti-piracy system. However, if any software were to be pirated, Relona's system will detect the license violation and block further use of the pirated software.

Relona's system is user-friendly because it remains invisible to legitimate users. As long as the software is used in compliance with its license, users will never be aware of the Relona anti-piracy system.
